His Excellency Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat), affirmed that the launch of “Tree Week,” as part of the National Action Plan for achieving carbon neutrality announced by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, with the pioneering initiative of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, represents a strong boost to national efforts in raising public awareness about expanding green spaces and protecting the environment, supporting sustainable development goals.
His Excellency expressed pride in participating, along with Derasat staff, in the tree-planting activity held at the center’s headquarters in Awali, as a commitment to promoting environmental protection and strengthening community partnerships in implementing the national afforestation plan, which aims to plant 3.6 million trees by 2035. He emphasized that every tree planted is a step toward a greener, more sustainable country and a gift to future generations to combat climate change and improve quality of life in a healthy environment.
Dr. Shaikh Abdulla also reiterated Derasat’s commitment to conducting specialized research and studies in environmental sustainability and climate change, proposing solutions and policies, and supporting national plans and programs to advance Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and the National Action Plan for achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, while preserving biodiversity.
